This Labor Day, Remember the Union Heroes Who Built the American Dream
Countless men and women fought--and died--for your free speech and fair wage. Among the greatest of these heroes of labor was Joe Hill. Click here for lyrics.
If You're Going to Tell the Tale, Tell It True
New Orleans wasn't drowned by an act of God.

What happened here was the result of decisions made by men.

If you're going to tell the tale, tell it true.

Video: Da Title Track
Need Any Tears Jerked Today?
Special Guests: Spanky and the Love Handles
This week's video is from my friends Spanky and the Love Handles' latest record, eponymously titled.

If you are unfamiliar with the brilliant and mysterious Mr. Vreeland, you can learn more than you'll ever want to know at

https://offbeat.com/2011/07/28/clark-vreeland-man-of-mystery/

This Week's Feature Presentation--"Jane's Island"
I was asked why there's no videos from the "Private Islands" album.

The answer: I dunno.

Here's the "title" track, with video from around town and around the web.

This Week's Video--"The River"
Another oldie--dang near twenty years.

George Keys (Izquierdo) did the production and vocals.

New video starring the Mississippi, Atchafalaya and Whiskey Bay.

New Video This Week: "Ain't Ridin'"
Another one from "Gangsta Folk," to remind us that though we may often stumble, it's sometimes forward.

As Churchill said, "Americans will always do the right thing, after exhausting all the alternatives."

Happy Birthday, America

Water Tower Road--"Now Available Online"
Yeah, yeah, another bloody video.

The song, co-written with Clark Vreeland, is from "Gangsta Folk." The video was shot (mostly) in Leesville and Deridder.

But, truth to tell, it's a story that could be told just about anywhere.

New Video: "Thank God and Huey Long"
From the album "Dark Matters" (2009)

Images of Huey, the sheet music from "Every Man a King" and the "for President" sign are from LOC and private collections. The rest are my own from bumming around.

MP3 of the song can also be heard at the Long Legacy Project at HueyLong.com

A Plug for My Pals
Strictly speaking, this belongs on the Nichevo page, but I wanted to highlight my friends' store, "Reservoir," in the 2000 block of Magazine Street in NOLA. Great prices and cool stuff you won't find elsewhere.

They sold me the drums from "They Want It All," the kalimba that led to the title track of "Nichevo" and more vinyl than you could wear out in a lifetime of bad turntables.

Check 'em out.

Great New Depressing Video for New Great Depression
From the album "Dark Matters."

Don't worry. I'm sure the invisible hand of the market will clean up the mess.

Riiiiiiight. . .

Good Lord, Another Video?
Old, old song, video shot this year around town.

A love letter to my little town.

I hope you like it

New Video from Nichevo
New video from Nichevo, and a pretty special one at that.

The photographs are nearly all from the Library of Congress collection of Ansel Adams' photos of Manzanar. The mix and master are Finney's.

Please enjoy, and thank you to all my fellow taxpayers for making such treasures available online to the public

A Video for Memorial Day 2011
I find it hard to believe this song was recorded more than eight years ago.

I thought then we would surely be saying goodbye to the last to fall in Baghdad any day.

Any day now.

Images from Arlington, taken July 4, 2010.

Peace.

Startling Revelations
While I'm waiting for the big load of discs to arrive (got a small box in by air yesterday for the Music Factory and a couple of local stations), I figured now's as good a time as any to reveal my secret identities. There are a few Louie Ludwigs around the old nets--the drummer, the woman who blogs about Jewish issues--but I'm the other one. For those who've asked, yes, I'm also that guy and, yes that guy, too But, if in doubt, just assume I'm the other guy.
Nichevo Chris Finney Mixes--The Blind Taste Test
Are Chris Finney's mixes and the musicians' performances on Nichevo really better? Time to take the YouTube Blind Taste Test.

Okay, put on your blindfolds. Now, click on one of the YouTube videos for "Hey Tony" or "They Want It All."

Wait, what? You can't click on the link blindfolded? Well, hell, this isn't going to work. . .
